what if you adapt the amenities of hospitality design to a space-challenged residence?

why not carve out a dedicated “Zoom room” and wellness area to activate a small space?

This Zoom Room incorporates strategies that are being conceived as new hospitality design principles, and applies them to modern day small-space living.

Cleanliness: Sustainable carbon-negative carpets; stain-resistant fabrics; fewer non-porous surfaces; design with clean lines and geometry; flexible furnishings with exposed legs; sleeping spaces with clear space underneath — visible, aesthetically pleasing, indications of cleanliness.

Smart Efficiencies: Automation in doors and key-less entry. Expanded contact-less technology in lighting and bathroom fixtures deliver measurable efficiencies. New concepts like a delivery hatch push the concept of “Room Service.”

Biophilic and Sustainable Design: Already a trend of hospitality, green design moves into the residential segment. Materials rooted in nature or designs that mimic nature; organic fabrics, culture-consciousness brands, are important. The health benefits associated with bringing the outdoors in creates a positive and restorative impact on occupants.

Re-imagined Workspace: The desk with phone, USB port and rolling chair are no longer enough. As people have moved to a digital workspace, WFH requires a dedicated space (no un-made bed in the background) with conferencing set-up. Who doesn’t want a “zoom room”?

Wellness: Gone is the gym and sharing a treadmill with strangers. In-home workout and meditation spaces will become even more important as a means of wellness and self-care.
